Geelong Performing Arts Centre A004

The Geelong Performing Arts Centre (GPAC) is Victoria’s only state-owned cultural institution outside of Melbourne. It brings a wide array of creative and cultural experiences to Geelong and the region, and has given many local artists their first taste of the stage. The existing Geelong performing arts centre is to undergo a facelift changing the capabilities and style completely. The new building on Ryrie Street will open onto a foyer on two levels, which will connect to the rear of the Playhouse Theatre and the Church. Most striking will be the revealing of the old Church building to the street after years of being hidden behind an uninspiring façade.

The redevelopment will enable GPAC to able to attract a greater diversity of high quality productions from around Australia and internationally and will provide more opportunities for local artists, schools and community groups.

Designed by international Melbourne-based architecture studio, HASSELL, the project will redefine GPAC, its connection with the CBD and its position as Victoria’s leading regional performing arts centre.
